This book is an ambitious project- to identify the primary cause of the world’s ills and state plainly the solution. Tom Shadyac is a comedy film director (Ace Ventura, The Nutty Professor, Bruce Almighty), but has clearly, over the years, engaged in a spiritual dialogue with himself, and explores here whether our current cultural narrative has seduced us into wholeheartedly embracing a way of life that may have very little to do with reality. He is, of course, not the first to ask these questions, but is certainly one of the few in modern western culture to actually change his lifestyle to match his moral and ethical findings. He has sold his multi-million dollar Hollywood mansion in favour of living in a mobile home. The format of the book is largely in the form of an inner conversation, developed from a Native American children’s story of two warring wolves within- the wolf of fear and the wolf of truth. Shadyac successfully presents the ‘perennial philosophy’ of the interconnectedness of all life, in a new and modern framework.
