This is an easy to read book on how to practice mindfulness with children aged 3-10 years. Naumburg writes about how mindfulness can give children the skills they need to better manage stress, difficult feelings and attention problems. She offers games, activities and exercises to support “fewer meltdowns and a more peaceful family”. An example of an activity is ‘cooked spaghetti and the tin man’ where when you say “tin man!” your child straightens up and when you say “cooked spaghetti!” your child goes all limp. The writing is clear, humorous and thoughtful. Ready, Set, Breathe will show you and your child how to be calm, focus and live in the present moment. A wonderful parenting book. A great introduction to mindfulness. Two other popular books for children are:
GOOD MORNING YOGA and GOOD NIGHT YOGA by Miriam Gates and illustrated by Sarah Jane Hinder
These two hardcover books are for children aged 4-8yrs. These are joyful and informative books that introduce basic yoga poses. They illustrate and offer simple words as they guide children through a pose-by-pose wake up story and bedtime story.
